Les Décadents

Symbolist tales

“Copulation and mirrors are abominable, since they both multiply the numbers of men.” Jorge Luis Borges

The Les Décadents staged-reading has been specially formulated in order to accompany the full-scale production of Oscar Wilde’s Salomé, which premiered shortly after.

The latter 19th century abounds with the most wonderful storywriters in literature across the globe, amongst whom we find Lautréamont, Pierre Louÿs, Jean Lorrain, or Marcel Schwob… Two of them even contributed to the writing of Oscar Wilde’s Salomé.

In Les Décadents, Jérémie Le Louët performs an anthology of tales which enables us to grasp the stylistic flourish of the decadent movement. From lyrical works to baroque humour, and the use of explosive language, Les Décadents brings us poetry which is playful, surprising and spectacular.
